coin operated boy
sitting on the shelf he is just a toy
but i turn him on and he comes to life
automatic joy
that is why i want a coin operated boy

made of plastic and elastic
he is rugged and long-lasting
who could ever ever ask for more
love without complications galore
many shapes and weights to choose from
i will never leave my bedroom
i will never cry at night again
wrap my arms around him and pretend....

coin operated boy
all the other real ones that i destroy
cannot hold a candle to my new boy and i'll
never let him go and i'll never be alone
not with my coin operated boy......

this bridge was written to make you feel smittener

The symbol of the “Three Wise Monkeys”, aka. see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil, has been diminished to a term used to express ignorance.

Ignorance might be bliss but it has been said that the more you know, the more you realise how much you do not know. So paying homage to this transitional state.

So if ignorance is bliss, is wisdom suffering?

Aristotle believed that an object’s soul is its respective activity. So a marionette’s soul would be the activity of it emulating human live. But it is unable to do so unless it is attached to a external entity.

This piece seeks to indicate existentialism and man’s relation to the world he lives in. Like the marionette, the life of a person is isolated and “inanimate” if he were not regarded with the world that gives him life, as represented by the tree.

The individual represented in this piece has been a reoccurring source of inspiration in my work and that has compelled me to explore the relationship between an artist and his muse.

In this case, she is not related to me in any way. I did not pay her to model for me and she doesn’t owe me anything. I find myself referring to this photo of her constantly. She hasn’t the slightest idea of my existance yet she has made such a positive impact to my life, my thoughts and in turn my work.

An ordinary person just simply being.

That mere fact I believe is constantly neglected. Every man is a hero because he bears the weight of existence on his shoulders. With this piece I celebrate her existence.

on an initial attempt to achieve a more in depth understand of myself (and cause it was to me the simplest but most effective way to approach this school assignment), i did a mind map of myself. you know the kind that your secondary school teachers tell you to do when studying for a big history exam or something. but instead of being inspired by the words that were slowly unfolding, i ended up being more drawn to how the map visually looked.

more specifically how the lines that i was drawing to connect the points were crossing and layering over the words that i wrote.

then i started to wonder if the words mattered all that much. i mean i believe pretty strongly in circumstance. nurture over nature some call it. how maybe the way i am isn't as important as WHY i am the way i am. these "lines" symbolise the origin of my being. how everything is because of something else.

i guess that's what inspired me to create this piece. i represented my thought process by enlarging this small segment of the "map" that i drew into the piece itself. the lines crossing over my name itself sum up my thoughts quite significantly i think.

People have always been the primary focus of my photography and after browsing through the shots that were taken at Time Square, the heart of New York City, I noticed that there was an ironic absence of life and a certain sense of melancholy. On the same day, i visited ground zero, the site of the tragic nine-eleven attacks. 7 years after the tragedy struck, people were still mourning over the loss of lives. And right there, the magnitude of the situation hit me 7 years overdue. With manipulation of the photos with mixed media I hope to recreate visually the emotions I felt and the thoughts that were going through my mind. 2752 innocent lives lost.
